Abstrak

This research is based on the low ability of students to understand mathematical concepts. This research aims to improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts of class III students at SDN 3 Menduran by implementing the Snowball Throwing type cooperative learning model. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The population in this study were all class III students at Menduran Elementary School, totaling 16 students. The research instruments include tests in the form of essays and interviews. The test results will be analyzed based on indicators of concept understanding. The results of this research show that the students' understanding of mathematical concepts from the 16 students who were tested using Snowball Throwing learning obtained a total qualifying score of 75%, which is in the high category, which means that students' understanding of mathematical concepts in class III at SDN 3 Menduran increased from initially only 44%. Students show a positive total score qualification in the ability to understand mathematical concepts based on certain indicators. students show a high level of conceptual understanding on several indicators, such as restating a concept (81%), developing necessary or sufficient conditions for a concept (81%), and applying a concept or problem solving algorithm (94%). There is one indicator that needs further attention, especially the indicator of classifying objects according to their concept which is rated low (50%). Indicators provide examples and non-examples of concepts and present concepts in the form of mathematical representations in the medium category (75%).
