The background of this research is the large number of students scoring below the minimum competency criteria (KKM) in science subjects at UPT SDN 064985 Medan Helvetia. The low learning outcomes are attributed to the teaching method, which predominantly relies on lectures and does not utilize engaging learning media. Based on these issues, an effort to improve and enhance student learning outcomes in science for Grade V students was made by implementing the Problem- Based Learning (PBL) model. Through the PBL model, students are given the opportunity to solve problems independently. In the implementation process, researchers used classroom action research (PTK) which was carried out in 2 cycles consisting of cycles I and II. The instruments used in this study included teacher-created tests, observation sheets covering teacher and student activities, group assignments, and documentation. The findings from this research indicate that the use of the Problem- Based Learning model improved student engagement and learning outcomes in Grade V science lessons. This is evident as the average class score increased to 71.3 in Cycle I, with 67.86% of students meeting the KKM, and further increased to 86.48 in Cycle II, with 89.29% of students meeting the KKM. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem-Based Learning model can enhance student learning outcomes in science subjects for Grade V students at UPT SDN 064985 Medan Helvetia.
